Misleading Headline of the Day: AP: "G.O.P. Ignores Veto Threat, Passes Student Loan"

This travesty of a headline would have the gullible believe it's the White House that's not interested in preventing student loan rate hikes and that Republicans are the "good guys." Banghead

What it should read is, GOP Holds Student Loan Rate Hikes Hostage to Savage Cuts

But, to the article's credit, it does outline the problem with the POS bill the House passed:

Quote:The White House and most Democrats opposed the $5.9 billion bill because of how Republicans covered the costs: eliminating a preventive health care fund in President Barack Obama's health care law.

It was misleading and the repubs are tooting their horns like it was a good thing. Boehner calls the money to be used "one of the slush funds" in the ACA. Just another way for them to try to destroy health care.

Exactly. I'm so tired of the MSM providing cover for these charlatans. I hope people's brains are turned on to tune out this nonsense. (And I'm really disappointed in the NYT for simply cutting-and-pasting AP's story, headline and all. I know they subscribe to AP's service, but... that headline is a travesty.)

I thought the same thing. WTH?

I was born a Truman, but you can call me Pat. Wave

"They want to give people like me a two hundred thousand dollar tax cut that’s paid for by asking thirty three seniors to each pay six thousand dollars more in health costs? That’s not right, and it’s not going to happen as long as I’m President." Barack Obama

Here's what the Prevention money covers, I guess it varies somewhat in each state. I've recently noticed tv commercials for free quit smoking help, it includes a month of free nicorette, etc. We also have free flu shots now, I think people used to have to pay something. So those are two things I've specifically noticed here. Don't know what raising "revenue" has to do with student loan interest rates which should have nothing to do with the budget at all. Dems want to raise FICA to offset the interest rates? Don't get that either.

Thank you, SandnSea for the link -- after all these years, I shouldn't be surprised, but it still astounds me that Republicans are always up for making people suffer, rather than doing the decent thing. GOP sugar daddies can throw tens of millions down the hole in campaign funds, but God forbid they ever are made to stop freeloading off the rest of us and pay their fair share of taxes!
