I just love how they flesh out controversial topics and dispel all the ridiculous right-wing propaganda that infects the other two "news" networks.

It's rare to see a discussion with teeth, but both of them will let the participants get it all out. With the soundbites we see on other shows, MHP and CH really do stand out.

John and I absolutely love those two shows.. we are of the age that remembers when real debates happened on TV news commentary programs..

Hayes is better than anything they've got in prime time. LOD is the best prime timer. Schultz seems to be unrelentingly angry, and Rachel has just become annoying - her constant smirking just gets old. She does do a good bit of groundbreaking. I wish she could just be herself instead of Ms. Smart Aleck once in a while.

You do know that if it weren't for smart-alecky Rachel, we wouldn't have Chris Hayes or Melissa Harris-Perry on Saturday and Sunday mornings?

I remember when Charles Krauthammer appeared on her show when her show was new and complained of her being snide and smart-alecky. I'm afraid it's his face I see whenever I hear that characterization of her.

Yes, she is very successful for being a hard-working and honest reporter in the "old mold". This sort of excellence in reporting does indeed get under the skin of the right-wingers.

So Karen, what do you think about Rachel taking that right-wing troll to the cleaners for claiming that "women don't earn less than men." Do you support your oppressors?

I was responding to "still a democrat" who referred to Rachel as smart alecky. Then I was confused by the question that was something like, "do you identify with your oppressor.

I have tremendous respect for Rachel Maddow and have hard that "smirk" and "smart-alecky" charge (including from sister and mother!) often enough that I try to speak up wherever and whenever I hear it. I have learned a tremendous respect for Rachel Maddow and what she has brought to news--not just cable news. And it was by frequent appearances on her show that msnbc became aware of and eventually gave shows to Chris Hayes and Melissa Harris-Perry.

Purely a misunderstanding - I'll step back now and chill. I also wanted to remark about the sleight of Rachel as I think she's one of the best reporters of our generation (and so do those who hand out awards for these sorts of things.) And yes, Rachel helped bring these geeky Nation reporters to the fore and I absolutely love them - I think MSNBC has far and away the best trio (Rachel, Chris and Melissa) of "news junky" reporters available anywhere and thus this thread to give kudos to Chris and Melissa.
