Five police officers shot, one killed in NH
GREENLAND — New Hampshire Attorney General Michael A. "Mike" Delaney has confirmed that one officer was killed and four others wounded during a drug raid on Post Road.

According to multiple reliable sources, the officer killed is Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney.

Maloney was one week from his scheduled retirement.

Gov. John Lynch was on scene at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where wounded officers were transported.

"This is a tragic incident, and my thoughts and prayers are with the officers involved and their families," Lynch said.

Two sources told the Herald that Maloney was shot as well as two drug agents who responded to the home of Cullen Mutrie at 517 Post Road.

This is so sad. I hope the other officers who were shot survive. My condolences to the family of Chief Maloney.

Another tragedy. Got to get the guns away from the bad guys. How sad about the Chief who was about to retire. I also hope the four other officers will recover okay. I send condolences to their families.

Drugs and guns, there is no way out for either.

Friday Update
The officers shot:

Chief Mike Maloney, Greenland Police Department. Died of his injuries at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Detective Gregory Turner, Dover Police Dept.
Detective Eric Kulberg, University of New Hampshire Police Dept.
Detective Scott Kukesh, Newmarket Police Dept.
Detective Jeremiah Murphy, Rochester Police Dept.

Kukesh and Murphy are in stable condition in the intensive care unit in Portsmouth following surgery.

The shooter, Cullen Mutrie, and an unidentified female were found dead early Friday morning. Police used a small robot to search the premises.

Mutrie had a long record of criminal activity and general douchebaggery. He had been arrested in the past for dealing steroids, domestic violence, and assaulting a bar patron.

What an awful tragedy. The chief was said to be a really nice guy and was set to retire in 8 days. I have relatives in Greenland - I bet it's been madness for them.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

Chief Maloney's mother-in-law (possibly ex-MIL, not certain) is Rep. Laura Pantelakos (D-Portsmouth). Laura is a friend and a former colleague on the Criminal Justice Committee. Please say a prayer for Laura and her family.

RE: Five police officers shot, one killed in NH
This was so sad. As I was following the news that day and they said one officer was killed, I suspected it would end up being the chief. Here is what I am reading today:

"I just can't get over the unfairness of it," said Town Administrator Karen Anderson. "He was retiring in eight days. He died a hero, pulling an agent to cover after that man had been shot. He did it while bullets were still flying and he was shot in the head. I am really trying to hold it together."
