George Zimmerman to be charged in Trayvon Martin shooting, official says

Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey plans to announce as early as Wednesday afternoon that she is charging neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, according to a law enforcement official close to the investigation.

It was not immediately clear what charge Zimmerman will face.

I wonder that too. And when arrested he will have no lawyers so won't talk.
My guess is that the prosecutor knows of Zimmerman's whereabouts.

He claimed to his lawyers that he would surrender if an arrest warrant was issued. I think he is paranoid that somebody is going to kill him, so this is his "justification" for getting far away from FL. We shall see soon enough - at least he'll be "safe" in police custody - lol.

I should be interesting to see if he turns himself in. According to his now ex-lawyers, he is far away from Florida, He could be anywhere, even another country. If he's still in the US and the cops know where he's at, they can issue an arrest warrant and he can be arrested in whatever state he may be in, or he can turn himself in to a local police department. But if neither happens I think he would be considered a fugitive from justice.

On top of that, if his ex-lawyers or anyone else involved know where he is and are not coughing up that information to law enforcement, they can be charged now with harboring a fugitive. I doubt that's a bit of trouble they would want.

You know, reading his website, I think this guy truly believes he's a cop. And he was just performing his duty.

Of the 70% of cases ruled justifiable homicide in FL, 60% of those are by the police in dealing with a felony situation. Zimmerman seems to make no distinctions between himself and regular law enforcement.

I'm not surprised Z is in custody before the charge is read. But I'm glad he is and hope for justice in this killing.

I hadn't heard what the charge would be, but if it is 2nd degree murder that is the highest charge available.

For all that Corey went on about the law process taking time and that they aren't influenced by all the attention on the case, I still don't think Zimmerman would be charged if it wasn't for all the outrage by the public.

I agree. Trayvon would have just been another stat without people speaking out. The case stunk from the go with the Sanford PD. I think it's in better hands now.

I was watching Tweety and Ed both, and I can't remember which one had an attorney on, but when that came up -- what the charge was -- the attorney said that the prosecutor will probably also add the "lesser included charge" of manslaughter. I think one way or another, Zimmerman is going to be facing some prison time.
