The GOPs Religious War
Reading through some of the comments from the religious leaders on the talk shows is an adventure. It seems to me their religious war is among themselves. Will the godliest please step forward.

A couple examples:

Cracks emerge in Santorum’s evangelical support
By Agence France-Presse
Sunday, April 8, 2012 13:29 EDT

<..> Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention urged him to abandon the race and throw his support to frontrunner Mitt Romney to increase Republicans’ chances of defeating Barack Obama in November.

“Rick’s a good friend. I like Rick a lot,” Land told CBS “Face the Nation” program on Sunday. But, Land said, “as his friend I would say to him, ‘you know, you ought to seriously consider leaving the race now.’

<..> But after their candidate failed to pick up sufficient steam to seize the nomination, Christian conservatives met again with Santorum last week, to strategize about how they should proceed going forward.

Rick Warren: Evangelicals have a 'key sticking point' with Mormonism
By MACKENZIE WEINGER |
4/8/12 10:19 AM EDT

<..> Asked by ABC’s Jake Tapper on “This Week” if Mormons are Christians, Warren — the pastor of Saddleback Church and author of “The Purpose Driven Life” — said “the issue of the Trinity” marks one of the biggest differences between evangelicals and Mormons.

“Well, the key sticking point for evangelicals and actually for many is the issue of the Trinity. Orthodox Christians, Catholic Christians, Protestant Christians, evangelical Christians and Pentecostal Christians all believe in the Trinity. That’s the historic doctrine of the church, that God is three-in-one. Not three gods. One God in Father, Son and Holy Spirit,” Warren said. “Mormonism denies that.”

This will be interesting if it really pans out
Mormonism really isn't like most Christian religions and the GOP tends to like to ride the religious fervor train. It's why the GOP worked to hard to spread the Obama is a Muslim lie.

I know back in 2008 most who "claimed" to be "real" christians said they would never voter for a Mormon because according to them Mormons are in a cult and do NOT have the same views as christians.

This is going to be a hard one for Mitt to overcome. While he can cater to all kinds of different views on things, say what the people want to hear, it's going to be very hard to defend his religion against those christians who are going to go after him for being a member of a cult. So far he has pretty much avoided going into detail about what Mormons believe, but sooner or later he is going to have to defend his religion and explain some of their teachings.

I have many reasons to not vote for Mittens, but his religion isn't one of them. The religious righties really need to get over themselves and realize that not everybody in this country is going to follow their beliefs. (And yes, I know that's not gonna happen, but I wanted to say it anyway.)

Silence is consent.

I totally agree, but the religious right, those who think only republicans can be christians, that Jesus was a conservative, and that "ONLY" a christian, their version of a christian of course, should be the president, are not voting for the person best qualified, or not voting for the person least qualified, they only vote on their religious values, no matter how far from the actually teachings of the bible those values may be.

Religion should be about accepting others, not wanting to "force" others to believe your beliefs and thinking only those who have "your" beliefs are true christians. Republicans have pushed the religious factor, and exploited it for years claiming to be the only party that would push religious views once elected. Of course once elected they forgot all about the religious issues, but the same people who won't vote for Mitt because of his religion are the same people that have voted for the so called "christian" republicans over and over again. Now this year they will have a candidate they won't accept simply because of his religion.

RE: The GOPs Religious War
I heard President Obama say that he would not bring up someone's religion in the campaign. But you can bet the right will be bringing it up, the preachers are at it already. And we have the birthers at it again, but so far I haven't seen much in the way of the muslim bit. I'm sure it'll come back. If Willard throws a punch about religion I expect the O campaign and the PAC to fight back with all they've got.

Romney would be crazy to try and attack the president on the religious issue, but than again Mitt is not very smart, and has done a pretty good job of making mistakes that come back to bite him in the butt later on, so who knows what he will do.

I hear that Fox news is already bring up the reverend Wright thing, so we can count on them to make sure the right wing gets their talking points on using religion in this election.

If Romeny does bring it up, I am sure the PACs will go after him on his religion
