Permitted handguns will be allowed in RNC's 'clean zone'

Hoping to head off violent protesters during the Republican National Convention, Mayor Bob Buckhorn has proposed a litany of items that will be considered security threats during the week-long event.

The list runs from air pistols to water pistols and also includes items such as masks, plastic or metal pipe and string more than six inches long.

Conspicuously absent from the list of potential weapons: Firearms.

That's because state law bans local governments from placing any restrictions on the carrying of guns in public spaces.

So the only gun free zone will be the perimeter set up by the Secret Service around the actual RNC venue. Oh goody. Lots of 'stand your ground' spaces for the accidents to happen.

Does this mean they will get to do this in Charlotte too? I'm guessing NC has stupid gun laws too.....and hoping I am wrong.

Imagine the hoards storming the barricades, demanding their second amendment rights, barricades be damned. Gunfight at the Disney Corral: the Romney Gang vows to stop the evil Santorum Gang, and the Gingrich Gang teams up with the Paul Gang to stir things up more. Being Republicans, they will find this all in good fun, as long as no sex is involved. Dead bodies are fine, as they do not violate any Christian obscenity standards.

Interesting that handguns are considered "clean." "Playboy" probably is not.

I see a potential conflict between the state's law and the Secret Service.

Their will be at least two individuals and family members who will be under protection by the Secret Service. If the Secret Service says no weapons then what happens?

roflmao So the RNC is concerned about gun violence, but can't actually do anything about guns? So they're going to ban water guns instead?? Gosh. Doesn't that sound a little like a "nanny state"?

Fuck 'em. Let them see what happens when everybody is packing. They won't learn any other way.
