Quote:Eleven of the 18 members of President Obama's fiscal commission voted Friday to embrace a bipartisan commission's controversial plan to slash deficits by nearly $4 trillion over the next decade -- too few votes to command quick action in Congress, but far more than even the panel's most ardent supporters had predicted just a few weeks ago.

Looks like the sane predictions are coming true - that the proposals of the "catfood commission" won't be coming to pass after all.

I stated that repeatedly on DU - none of the trolls were listening.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

Well there goes a whole lot of wasted pearl clutching!

To prepare for when your life flashes before your eyes, make sure it's fun to watch.

I am not surprised. The President was very wise in the way he set up the Commission and the criteria needed to get any recommendations approved. A number of sane DUers tried to tell the 'OMG, seniors will be eating cat food and the corporatists run the show' crowd this but, like everything else, the facts were studiously ignored or shouted down.

Thanks for the heads-up on this, it is much appreciated.

Their proposal for Social Security was pretty mild and even offered benefit increases to some lower income recipients and those over 85.

It looks like Simpson was correct about those who were engaging in sensationalist exaggeration about their plans for Social Security. I'm sure we can expect an apology from a number of posters at FDL and several pundits at progressive publications.

Actually even milder than I expected. But no, there won't be any apology because they're all pretending they are raising retirement age from 62 to 69 and that is just crap. I posted the actual text from the proposal and hope some folks will pay attention.

Early Eligibility is currently at age 62 and will increase to 64 in, get this, 2075. They have also proposed creating a flexible claim program and a hardship program for those who cannot work past age 62.
