No top Oklahoma officials greet Obama at plane
With the Republican governor and lieutenant governor both out of state, none of Oklahoma's top officials were on hand to greet President Barack Obama during his Wednesday night arrival at Tinker Air Force Base.
Gov. Mary Fallin left last week for a family vacation in Puerto Rico and Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb is at a conference in Washington. Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett, a Republican, greeted the Democratic president on the air base tarmac in advance of an Obama speech on energy policy near Cushing on Thursday. Fallin spokesman Alex Weintz said the governor wasn't contacted about the president's visit until Sunday. The trip was announced to the media last Friday. "The president's office didn't ask to have anyone from our office greet him," Weintz said. "The president's office invited the governor to participate in the event in Cushing, and since the governor is out of town, we're sending Secretary (of Commerce Dave) Lopez." ... http://www.realclearpolitics.com/news/ap...plane.html |
