The Application of Justice and the Racial Caste System

The Application of Justice and the Racial Caste System
or No, we are far from "post-racial".

Another consideration was the justice system and the legal cost, both psychological and actual. Extreme outrage can be leveled at the underclass for acts that are given a pass, or less outrage, if done by the overclass. There was an excellent comparison dble-pic (that I have not been able to find away from Facebook) that illustrates the point. According to the captions...

"This guy was sentenced to 23 months in prison for knowing people who fought dogs..."

"This guy is allowed to walk free (with gun permit) after killing an unarmed black teenager..."

Minor inaccuracies aside, the major point is who did what and to whom. In Michael Vick's case, a member of the underclass committed a high-profile crime, and the overclass is outraged. In George Zimmerman's case, a crime was committed against a member of the underclass. The vast majority of action and outrage and press coverage is being driven by the members of the underclass and the overclass is, for the most part, silent and not present.

Why aren't they as outraged as the underclass? Their silence is loud as the shouts of the underclass.

What if it where the other way around? I'll bet the Sanford PD would have no problem arresting a black suspect, but that's the point. I've seen some posts of young white males complaining about how they are harassed by police because they have long hair, or covered in tattoos, or dressed not the norm, etc., but they all miss the point: their unpleasant encounters with police have never ended in death. Once they've been identified as members of the overclass, their safety is assured. The underclass is rarely afforded that consideration, and that's wrong and the reason for the outrage. Basic consideration for ALL is long overdue.

Florida Senate President Rejects Calls For Committee To Review ‘Stand Your Ground’ Law
By Amanda Peterson Beadle on Mar 22, 2012 at 6:10 pm

<..> The governor’s office said he is reviewing the request. In the meantime, Senate President Mike Haridopolos said there would be no special committee on the use of the “Stand Your Ground” law, according to the Palm Beach Post:

“The Senate President feels that Governor Scott is currently taking all of the appropriate steps to address the tragic shooting of Trayvon Martin. Additionally, the Senate President is confident that the circumstances surrounding this shooting will be closely examined by lawmakers, and if the Senate concludes that laws need to be revised they will be addressed in the future,” Haridopolos’s spokeswoman Lyndsey Cruley said in an e-mail.

Haridopolos’ reaction is another example of Republicans who bow to the National Rifle Association, which pushed for the Florida self-defense law in the first place. And while debate continues in Florida about it, the NRA continues to lobby other state legislatures to enact the same controversial law. Just days after Martin’s tragic death, the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action urged Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton (D) to sign a bill that would bring a Florida-style “Stand Your Ground” law to Minnesota. (Dayton vetoed the legislation.)

Which looks like they think their law is ok. Rats.

I couldn't find any articles of the GOP candidates mentioning the killing of Trayvon Martin. Even FauxNews had coverage of the story, but nothing from the candidates.
