RE: U.S. Department of Justice announces investigation into shooting death of Trayvon Ma
Feds open Trayvon Martin investigation
FBI, Dept. of Justice looking into case
Published On: Mar 19 2012 10:32:01 PM EDT Updated On: Mar 19 2012 10:36:32 PM EDT
<..> In a statement, the DOJ said along with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida and the FBI, they are looking into "the facts and circumstances of the shooting death of Trayvon Martin."
"The department will conduct a thorough and independent review of all of the evidence and take appropriate action at the conclusion of the investigation," the statement continued. "The department also is providing assistance to and cooperating with the state officials in their investigation into the incident. With all federal civil rights crimes, the government must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a person acted intentionally and with the specific intent to do something which the law forbids – the highest level of intent in criminal law. Negligence, recklessness, mistakes and accidents are not prosecutable under the federal criminal civil rights laws. The Community Relations Service will be in Sanford, Fla., this week to meet with civil rights leaders, community leaders, and local law enforcement to address tension in the community.”

U.S. Department of Justice, FBI and FDLE to probe Trayvon Martin killing.
Mounting pressure in Trayvon Martin case succeeds in getting a federal probe.
By Frances Robles
The U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division and the FBI will step in to investigate the killing of Miami Gardens teenager Trayvon Martin, the U.S. Department of Justice announced late Monday.
The announcement coincided with a statement from Florida Gov. Rick Scott asking the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to offer “appropriate resources” in the case.
The federal and state agencies are intervening in what attorneys call a botched investigation into the killing of the Michael Krop Senior High School student, who was killed Feb. 26 in Sanford, a town of 55,000 just north of Orlando. The teen, on suspension from school, was staying at his father’s girlfriend’s house when he stepped out to 7-Eleven to buy candy and iced tea.

This is sickening.
This is no different than a lynching in my view.
This Zimmerman character belongs in jail for the rest of his life.
I'm glad the feds are stepping in - the local police seem to be in cahoots with this murderous bigot.
Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid
The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

Zimmerman chased the boy

With FL gun laws this will be dicey. Zimmerman being told not to follow Trayvon, and then doing so and shooting him....and saying it was self defense. He looks guilty as hell.
so his life was never in jeopardy.
My question about the law is, is the victim or any of us allowed to defend ourselves? You see the law favors the drunk, drugged out person who "Feels" threatened.....it doesn't protect the majority of us.

RE: U.S. Department of Justice announces investigation into shooting death of Trayvon Ma
<..> UPDATE 4, 10:56 p.m. EDT, Monday, March 19: US Department of Justice, FBI, and Florida state detectives to investigate
<..> Florida, too, is moving forward with a state-level investigation. Gov. Rick Scott sent a letter to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (the state's FBI equivalent) requesting the move, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The letter states:
The circumstances surrounding the death of Trayvon Martin have causead significant concerns within the Sanford community and the state..I understand an investigation was initiated by the Sanford Police Department and referred to the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office. I believe it is appropriate the the Florida Department of Law Enforcement provide any assistance necessary to fully investigate this matter. Accordingly, please ensure that FDLE offers and provides the appropriate resources to the State Attorney's Office as they continue their investigation.
These moves may suggest that state- or federal-level charges in Trayvon Martin's death could come soon.

The FL FBI was working on this earlier today....saw it on twitter.

Police release watch captain’s previous calls
George Zimmerman’s calls show interest in the mundane and in suspicious outsiders.
By Frances Robles
frobles@MiamiHerald.com
From open garage doors to kids dashing into the street and “suspicious characters,” George Zimmerman, neighborhood watch captain at Retreat at Twin Lakes, was on it.
<..> The last time Zimmerman made one of those calls, Feb. 26, ended in the death of the “suspicious” person he reported. Zimmerman, 28, told police that after he called to report Martin was walking slowly in the rain and peering at houses, Martin jumped him from behind and beat him. After shooting Martin dead, Zimmerman claimed self defense and has not been charged.

He was jumped from behind and beat up? This is all over the place and I am so glad the DOJ is investigating.
ps....there was no link to the new call release.
