GOP: Old, white and in trouble, poll says
By David Lauter

Reporting from Washington—

The Republican primary campaign so far hasn’t produced a nominee, but it has had one clear outcome – worsening the GOP’s image among the young, the better educated and the non-white.

That finding, from the Pew Research Center survey released Wednesday, could be a serious handicap for the party in elections this fall and in years to come, said Pew’s director, Andrew Kohut.

“The Republicans really are the party of white people, and especially older white people,” Kohut told reporters as the poll was released. “They’ve done nothing in this campaign to make be more favorably viewed” among other parts of the electorate.

<..> The example of what could happen if the party does not do so is California, where the GOP became alienated from Latinos just as their voting percentage began to rise rapidly. Over the last five election cycles, California has moved from being a swing state to being one of the most solidly Democratic states in the country.

I think the pubs are on a losing streak when it comes to getting votes from non-whites. Every year the country is more diversified, and if we can get people out to vote, it will show.

The Morning Plum: Romney putting GOP at risk with Latinos
By Greg Sargent

You constantly hear top Democrats and neutral commentators warning that Mitt Romney’s embrace of extreme positions on immigration has effectively dashed his hopes of making inroads among Latinos in the general election. But as Glenn Thrush reports in a must-read this morning, this sentiment is now being privately voiced to the Romney campaign by top Republicans, who worry his lurches to the right are undoing years of what they are calling GOP outreach to a consistuency whose share of the vote will only grow in the years ahead.

The worry has been prompted by a recent poll showing only 14 percent of Latinos support Romney over Barack Obama:

One top GOP operative said that number needs to be closer to 33 percent: “We lose Hispanics this bad, we lose the whole election. Period.”

Add Santorum telling Puerto Rico to speak english and they can kiss those votes good-bye.

Not late-breaking news for the GOP and their use of the "Southern Strategy" for the past 40+ years. Token outreach attempts and representation by stupid and/or obvious lawn jockeys (latest addition Allan West) will not change anyone's opinions. Let the GOP pass into history, they're way overdue.

I believe this is why the GOP is trying to set up what I call an "American Apartheid" system - where the minority controls the majority by way of voter suppression and other despicable tactics.

I am much more worried about voter suppression than I am about alienated communities voting Republican. It is bone-chilling how good the GOP got at voter suppression during Dubya's reign: everything from Diebold computers to putting too few voting booths in too few polling places to robo-calls letting minority voters know that their day to vote would be Wednesday.

I hope that the DoJ has been working on these issues behind the scenes (the way that so much of what Obama's administration gets important things accomplished) -- I wish I knew more, though there's been some indication that focus has gone to some places.

I think Bush and his advisers really did understand the need to gain the Latino vote--and did reach out to Latinos.

But the rest of the GOP seems to have paid no attention to them.

Old, white, "crazy", and in trouble. Seems like the tea party has add the "insane" to the GOP calling card. The clowns running this year for the nomination have gone so far out to the right, they may never be able to get back, and if they do get back to more moderate side of things, they will lose the "insane" tea baggers who demand that the nominee be as crazy as they are!

One thing for sure though is they are in "trouble" and I think they know it!
