(Seriously, I thought this was from The Onion, but it's true - ThinkProgress tweeted the link)

Quote:TORONTO — Former U.S. vice-president Dick Cheney has cancelled an April appearance in Toronto citing concerns Canada is too dangerous.

“He felt that in Canada the risk of violent protest was simply too high,” said Ryan Ruppert, president of promotions company Spectre Live Corp., which had booked Mr. Cheney for an April 24 appearance at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

In September, Mr. Cheney was speaking at a private club in Vancouver when protesters massed outside the front door harassing ticket holders and in one instance, choking a security guard. The former vice-president was reportedly held inside the building for more than seven hours as Vancouver Police in riot gear dispersed the demonstrators.

“God forbid there was ever an emergency,” said Ruppert, noting Cheney’s history of heart problems.

Check out the comments thread - it's a hoot.

They hate you Dick, you walking-dead war criminal
Gotta love our cousins across the border.

Hello, Hekate! I didn't realize there was such a thing as Canuck teabaggers, but it sure looks like it (of course, they could just be garden-variety-US-teabaggers, too); looks like they're getting more than they bargained for!

Canada has its own conservatives and wingnuts, but the men who dragged the US and allies into two useless wars do not seem to have much of a fan club over there. It always cheers me up to see when members of the Bush Cabal are scared away from some venue they'd like to appear at.

After eight years of "free speech zones," it does my heart good, too.

Wasn't dubya supposed to speak in Canada and ended up not going too? I think they're scared of being arrested.

Thanks, I had forgotten the details as to why he didn't go.

Forgot to add: Five-deferments Cheney is a coward
It's the USA that has the long and miserable record of political assassinations, not Canada.
Canada's not "too dangerous" for him, but it surely would be plenty uncomfortable for him to have to scurry past the signs and yells of a citizenry that doesn't have amnesia about his crimes.
