Does McCain realize he would be fighting Russia and China on this too? I am so freaking sick of the war loving repubs sticking their long noses into things that need to be diplomatically moved along and demanding fucking WAR on the moment.

Syria is in a terrible state, the rulers are killing the people in huge numbers, it's got to be stopped, but not by the USA alone. Will they never get past the idea of preemptive wars?

And here I was all set to give McCain kudos for calling out Limbaugh in clear-cut language. Will the war-mongering never stop with these folks. -- Although, I will say this -- I agree something must be done before Syria's entire civilian population is butchered by their own "leaders" - I'm interested to hear what McCain will offer in the way of accomplishing this without starting WWIII.

Did say US can't go it alone......now attacking PBO saying not doing it right.

I knew he couldn't be proactive, but his personal issues of losing to PBO color everything he says.

McCain calls for US-led airstrikes on Assad forces

Arizona Sen. John McCain called for American-led airstrikes on President Bashar Assad's forces in Syria, NBC News reports. McCain says the goal of the U.S.-led air strikes should be to establish and defend safe havens for delivering humanitarian and military aid in Syria.

"Providing military assistance to the Free Syrian Army and other opposition groups is necessary, but at this late hour, that alone will not be sufficient to stop the slaughter and save innocent lives," McCain said. "The only realistic way to do so is with foreign air power."

<..> The speech emphasized that "the United States should lead an international effort to protect key population centers in Syria, especially in the north, through airstrikes on Assad's forces."

"To be clear: This will require the United States to suppress enemy air defenses in at least part of the country," McCain said.

Tomorrow is "Super Tuesday".
The GOP is literally in disarray with many hoping for a "white (literally white) knight.

Is it at all inconceivable that McCain has such a huge ego that he believes he can position himself as the GOP white knight and get another shot at Obama without the weight of Palin dragging his campaign down?

I don't think he'd have a shot but with the narcissistic egos that many politicians possess I think that in his mind he may harbor such a delusion.
