Stupid Is As Stupid Votes
Read the full article on the blog.
The sane among us can’t help but wonder who would vote for a Republican for president. The answer turns out to be a simple one: the insane vote for Republicans, which includes:People who believe there is an actual War on Christmas, Christianity is under attack, and the separation of Church and State doesn’t apply to their religion, only everybody else’s. People who believe that Barack Obama is not a US citizen, was not born in the United States, and traveled back in time to place his own birth announcement in a Hawaiian newspaper four-plus decades ago. People who believe higher education is elitist, and the purpose of colleges is to indoctrinate young adults into becoming liberals. People who believe tax cuts for the wealthy are a good idea – because they just know their own minimum wage job is going to make them a millionaire one day soon. People who believe FOX News represents accurate journalism, Rush Limbaugh is a well-informed, eloquent intellectual, and Glen Beck knows everything – and can prove it with a blackboard and a piece of chalk. People who believe that all Muslims are terrorists who are planning to take over the country one convenience store at a time. People who believe that if gays can marry, their own marriage will disintegrate before their eyes. People who believe that universal healthcare means a government official, instead of a doctor, will be in charge of their medical treatment. People who believe that everyone on welfare or food stamps doesn’t really need assistance – they’re all just scamming the system. People who believe that the current deficit didn’t exist until Obama took office. People who believe global warming is a hoax, because it still snows in the winter. People who believe abortion should be outlawed, because all life is sacred – until that life depends on social safety nets funded by their tax dollars. People who believe that women’s health issues should be discussed out of earshot of the ladies. People who believe that sex education in schools leads to teenagers having sex – which would never happen otherwise. People who believe the government has no right to intrude in their own lives, but every right to intrude in their neighbor’s bedroom. People who believe in Family Values – which, depending on the circumstances, do not necessarily preclude mistresses, divorce/remarriage/divorce/remarriage, visits to brothels, liaisons with young gay men, the taking of bribes in exchange for political favors, out-of-wedlock children, lying, tax evasion, cheating, stealing, investing based on inside information garnered via holding public office, etc. People who believe the Bible is to be taken literally, and scientific fact is to be taken with a grain of salt. People who believe the Sermon on the Mount wasn’t an admonition to do the right thing – it was merely a serving suggestion. People who believe we invaded Iraq because WMDs were actually found there. People who believe that Dubya kept the country safe from attack throughout his presidency – because 9/11 doesn’t really count. People who believe anything and everything that comes out of the mouth of anyone with an ® behind their name, a flag pin in their lapel, and a crucifix around their neck. People who believe that asking a VP candidate what newspapers she reads to stay informed is a "gotcha" question, obviously crafted to embarrass. People who believe a philandering blowhard, a guy who “remembers” events that happened before he was born, a guy who threw up when he heard JFK talk about the separation of Church and State, and a guy who “didn’t know” that racist propaganda was being sent out in his name are all qualified to govern a nation. People who believe that all men are created equal – but some are a little less equal than others. Especially women. And gays and lesbians. And Muslims. And liberals. And welfare queens. And blacks. And Hispanics. And people with accents. And people with funny-sounding names. And people without jobs. And battle-addled vets. And sick people. And homeless people. This is what the sane among us are up against – not people with differing political views, a different “take” on how common goals are to be accomplished, different ideas on what can be done for the betterment of all citizens, and the nation as a whole. We are up against insanity, pure and simple. So do whatever you can to educate, illuminate, persuade, cajole, and GOTV in November – because insanity is no way to run a country, despite the GOP trying to do exactly that. |
