Florida House Passes Anti-Sharia Law Within A Day Of Passing School Prayer Law

<..> Yesterday, within the span of 24 hours, the Florida House passed a bill to allow prayer in public schools and another to crack down on the supposed threat of Sharia law.

In a lopsided 88-27 vote, the chamber okayed a bill to allow any student to deliver “inspirational messages,” including religious prayers, at public-school events. “Look at what just happened in Ohio,” one lawmaker said, referencing the recent school school shooting there. “The kids need to have prayer at school.” Another explained the need by citing the “sex, gambling and all of the moral decay that’s on our televisions and radios.”

The ACLU and Anti-Defamation League believe the bill violates the separation of Church and State and have threatened legal action. Meanwhile, the other bill bans the use of “foreign law,” with an implicit focus on the supposed dangers of Sharia. When asked, the bill’s sponsor couldn’t point to a single cases in Florida in which a judge ruled on Sharia, but said the state needs to “jump in front of the problem.”

It's not "foreign law" I'm concerned about. It the domestic laws these asshats keep passing that keeps me awake at night.

Yes, exactly. They are destroying us from the inside out. Little groups of red legislators in red states are enacting their outrageous agendas into law to push us all into being under their control. We are going backwards in the states and President Obama is limited as to what he can do about it.

Are "states rights" about to do their thing again?

Unfortunately Florida is control by the far-right (teabaggers) and our asshole ghoulish governor is the most sickening of them all.

Just wait, when a Muslim kid, or a Jewish kid gets up and wants to lead the school in prayer, these same hypocrites will be the first to raise hell.

Exactly! The only prayer they approve of is their own weird brand of "Christian" prayer.

I guess Florida has no problem wasting millions in taxpayer dollars defending lawsuits.

The backlash coming form this type of legislation is going to be fearful to behold, the Teabagger Fundy Christians are going to destroy the "Party of Small Government" from within.
