House Democrats call on Boehner to repudiate Limbaugh's 'slut' comment

Washington (CNN) - House Democrats sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner on Thursday urging him to "repudiate" conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh for calling a young woman who appeared before a congressional panel a "slut" and a "prostitute."

<..> Pelosi and other top Democratic leaders in a statement Wednesday called Limbaugh's comments "vicious attacks," and the House Democrats' campaign arm began circulating a petition calling on GOP leaders to denounce the radio host.

<..> The letter to Boehner from more than 75 House Democrats appeals to top GOP leaders to publicly condemn Limbaugh's comments.

"This kind of direct attack on a private citizen is unacceptable," the letter states, and goes on to say, "Mr. Limbaugh is as free as any American to speak his mind about the political and social issues of our time, but using his radio show as a means for blatantly insulting a hard working American with obscene and indecent language because he disagrees with her personal choices is an abuse of the public airwaves."
