Survey Confirms Union Musicians Make More Money
http://www.npr.org/blogs/ablogsupreme/20...-of-23-300

Quote:$23,300, is the mean yearly music-related income for a jazz musician not affiliated with the American Federation of Musicians union, according to the FMC.
...

The number goes up to $37,200 for AFM members. Among non-jazz musicians, the mean income is lower for non-AFM-affiliated ($20,400) and higher for AFM-affiliated ($48,650).

Any member of ANY union could have predicted the outcome of this survey.

Agree. I don't think any union job is payed less than it's non-union comparison. It's why the wingers want the unions gone.....so their bottom line is bigger and they can push the people around.

RE: Survey Confirms Union Musicians Make More Money
Thank God for unions! Without going into detail (it's a long story), I can testify to that. But for my union I would be a hell of a lot worse off than I am now, and I'm barely making it as it is, but my union saved my job when I was unfairly attacked and singled out by my employer who wanted to get rid of me after I was injured on the job.

People who are against unions are fools.

AFM local 677, represent, right here. I've been a member now for over 10 years and have gotten excellent referrals, legal advice and even a pension plan.

In the world of pay-2-play, embattled economy, devalued craft, scams aplenty and less work situations willing to offer a contract, these days you'd almost be crazy to be a musician not in the union.
