Romney Camp Blindsided By DeWine's Betrayal
Nobody saw it coming. Campaign sources point to felon voting, but it's a big moment for Santorum.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine's decision to withdraw his support from Mitt Romney and throw it behind Rick Santorum didn't just come as a shock to pundits and politicos watching the Republican primary—it appears to have blindsided the Romney campaign itself.

<..> The Romney campaign initially went silent when BuzzFeed first reported earlier today that an Ohio Romney backer was planning to switch his endorsement: multiple e-mails and phone calls seeking comment from campaign officials went unreturned.

Campaign sources later said they believe DeWine was unhappy with their candidate's opposition to a felon voting bill that was backed by DeWine, Santorum, and Arlen Specter—and no other Republicans.

This explains a tweet saying Santorum has a big announcement today.

I don't like that. DeWine had to have known where Romney stood on the damn felon voting bill when he endorsed him since it was drafted years ago.

If you endorse, commit to it! I get pulling an endorsement when a candidate does something illegal or extremely damaging, but outside being a dumb, out of touch robot, which Romney was when DeWine endorsed originally, Romney hasn't done anything to warrant such a move. Sounds like DeWine looked at the polls, saw Santorum's big lead in his state, and decided to jump aboard solely for political gain.

This has been the year of supporters jumping camps. Whether they were campaign staff or followers, the number is astounding. Newt's bunch quit early on. Bachmann lost staff to others before she quit. Even Newt's money roll was ready to go to Willard's side until Santorum got so far out that stopping him is more important.

It's a mess and I'm glad it's their mess.

How, I wonder, could Romney have been "blindsided"?

DeWine is a Republican and by definition cannot be trusted to stand by their decisions or their solemn word. Of all Republican politicians in this country Romney, above all, should have understood and expected this.

Pappy you are so right, they should expect it. None of them are trustworthy.

Defector Mike DeWine on Romney: "To be elected President, you have to do more than tear down your opponents."

Wow, that ought to sit well.
