Jeb Bush op-ed has Republicans wondering about run
Jeb Bush op-ed has Republicans wondering about run
By Justin Sink - 12/19/11 12:30 PM ET

With conservatives seemingly still unwilling to coalesce around a Republican presidential candidate, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, brother of the 43rd U.S. president and son of the 41st, is raising eyebrows today with a Wall Street Journal op-ed extolling the virtues of the free market.

In the piece, Bush channels campaign-style rhetoric, leading some conservative commentators to question whether he might launch a late-inning jump into a chaotic GOP field.

<..> "Trial balloon? Jeb Bush pens campaign-like economic manifesto for WSJ," York tweeted.

<..> "I'm not holding out hope, but I do think it's a remote possibility. I do think the Republican Party is not going to nominate Newt Gingrich. If he emerges from the early primaries as the front-runner, someone's going to step in," Brooks said.

I can't read the WSJ because I don't pay. But anyway, this is an interesting development. I think Newt is yesterday's news, not going to win much of anything.

Oh cheeseandrice, Jeb. This country has already done stupid with two of your family members.
Stop it, just stop it. Haven't we all suffered enough?

RE: Jeb Bush op-ed has Republicans wondering about run
Jeb's only real baggage is his last name. Otherwise, he'd have been so far out ahead of the rest of them by now that Fox would already be taking bids for commercial air time for his inauguration.

That's one sad commentary on the current field of republican candidates, but an ever sadder one on our country, that so many of us (i.e. Americans, not Democrats) have been spending so much serious time on ANY of the ones currently running.

How long have I been saying this? The current crop is a collective clown act to keep the right wing minds (to the extent that there is such a thing) occupied until the real candidate can be presented, and appear qualified and rational by comparison. So would a gerbil, but then, that's the whole idea. Jeb DOES carry the baggage of the Bush name, but Rove has had success with a Bush before, and a far less qualified one at that. Jeb hasn't been up to much of late, but then what was Richard Nixon up to in 1967?

I don't think Jeb, or anyone in the republican part that wants to be president, will jump in until 2016. They aren't about to make a run at it this year, lose, and then have to come back again in 2016 and try it again.

I really don't think republicans want the WH this time around. They will wait till things get better, and then try and take credit for it like the always do. Now they have nothing to fix things, except the old tax cuts for the rich which has been done, and didn't work, and won't work. I think they will concentrate on congress, and try and keep on control of at least one branch so they can keep on blocking things and making Obama look bad. When things do get better, they will try and say it was their ideas that worked, and that by fighting the presidents agenda, they saved the country, and will then run on that "lie" in 2016.

Just my opinion.

That is exactly what I think. Look at 2008: They put up McCain/Palin (Huckabee, Romney, Ron Paul). They don't want to clean up their mess because they can't. They want Obama to clean it up, then take the credit and try and win again in 2016. I hope with all my heart they fail!!

I was born a Truman, but you can call me Pat. Wave

"They want to give people like me a two hundred thousand dollar tax cut that’s paid for by asking thirty three seniors to each pay six thousand dollars more in health costs? That’s not right, and it’s not going to happen as long as I’m President." Barack Obama

The trouble with Jeb is that the spoiled frat boy personality really shows through from time to time. More so even than with his brother.
