According to Alternet, toxic chemicals are still being found in Gulf of Mexico seafood in levels many multiples of what is considered safe. Keeping in mind how much toxic crap poured (or was poured) into the Gulf last year, I'm not surprised, but that the FDA is mounting a hefty campaign against caution is disturbing in the extreme.

Story here: http://www.alternet.org/story/153475/why...&rd=1&t=12

When one contemplates the danger, especially to the very young and pregnant women, the question arises: if a generation of brain-damaged children is born to the states of the Gulf region, then haven't the Republicans assured themselves of these states remaining in Republican hands for the next three decades?

Hold on to your tinfoil hats!

Rather than a conspiracy to dumb down the residents, I'd think it was the normal way all forces involved work it out-- not necessarily for the best.

Governors, congresscritters, trade and industry groups... there's a lot of jobs and income at stake around the Gulf, and many of them push for as little regulation as possible to avoid a hit that many really believe would be unnecessary.

It's kinda up to us to say we won't eat nasty contaminated food with possible long-term effects, but so far most of us will eat it if it tastes OK and is cheap.
