Is NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly Bulletproof?
http://www.npr.org/2011/12/01/142909989/...ulletproof

From the article:
Quote:New York City is safer than it's been in generations, but there does seem to be an alarming jump in the crime rate inside the New York Police Department.

In the past two months, members of the country's biggest police force have been accused of fixing parking tickets, smuggling guns and even planting drugs on innocent people.

In October, the U.S. attorney in New York, Preet Bharara, charged five current NYPD officers with smuggling what they thought were stolen cigarettes and firearms as part of an FBI sting.

"The charges unsealed today include conspiracy to distribute firearms, and conspiracy to distribute over $1 million in stolen goods," Bharara said at the time. By his side was Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

...

Ticket fixing, planting evidence, hiding police misconduct, harassment of minority citizens, when does the integrity of the police force charged to protect and serve become more important than arrest and ticket quotas? It seems that the police are no different than the criminals they are supposed to protect us from. It's sad when the only difference is that the criminals get prosecuted.

I have never considered any police officer to be immune from criminal activity, any moreso than any other segment of society.
