5 Reasons the Religious Right Should Stop Whining About Being Persecuted
http://www.alternet.org/story/153207/5_r...ersecuted/

From the article:
Quote:I’ve been writing about the Religious Right for nearly 25 years now, and one thing that never ceases to amaze me is when the leaders or supporters of these organizations claim they are being persecuted. Really? In a country that has a strong Christian culture and where at least 75 percent of the population professes some form of Christianity, it would seem odd that Christians would be persecuted. Yet the claim is made, constantly.

A new study on the power of religious advocacy groups in Washington by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life show yet again how absurd that claim is. Pew researchers examined 212 religious groups on the right and the left that engage in advocacy work in the nation’s capital. Their findings are illuminating. Anyone who believes the old saw that conservative Christians don’t have a voice in D.C. should take a look. With that thought in mind, here are five reasons why the Religious Right should stop complaining about persecution:

...
They have numbers, social support, access, money, and breaks that other groups don't get. IMO, the only thing worse than a whiner is a hypocritical selfish whiner that has no reason to whine. Like the rest of the greedy RW, they want 100% and won't share. I thought that sharing was one on their major tenets.

RE: 5 Reasons the Religious Right Should Stop Whining About Being Persecuted
Good article. It says a lot of things I've observed for years now. The one that really bothers me about the religious right is that they crow about "religious freedom" yet not only demands that everybody else not only submit to their POV but that it be made the law of the land, which IMHO deprives the rest of us of our religious freedom (or our freedom not to have any religion whatsoever) and, in some cases, deprives people of their basic human rights and oppresses women. The way the religious right has adversely affected our political system illustrates the founders' wisdom in creating a wall between church and state, specifically the way in which we have shifted from debating issues relevant to the common good to debating divisive issues that used to belong in and among churches.

That is called Dominionism and it is the biggest threat to this country since ithe country began. As I mentioned in an article I recently submitted here, at least three of the GOP candidates are Dominionists. I'm glad this is being said again here. It is a good article and everyone should pay attention. Clap

Even Barry Goldwater, the Godfather of conservatism, bemoaned the inability to reason with the religious right. He said it was just not possible, and that he knew because he had tried.

IMHO fights over homosexuality, abortion, etc. belong in the churches. Matters affecting the welfare and common good of all citizens are the ones that properly belong in our political system. IMHO we need to rebuild, refurbish, and reinforce the wall between church and state in this country before we get torn apart by fighting over ancient religious texts and whether or not they require us to condemn or condone our fellow citizens and/or restrict our behaviors.

Besides, they're not even real Christians (they hate everything Jesus preached and stood for) - so the hypocrisy goes right to the core.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

RE: 5 Reasons the Religious Right Should Stop Whining About Being Persecuted
The Religious Right whines about 'prosecution' because they know they got nothing.

They want to throw out the Constitution and bring the government under religious control, and have so far been thwarted in that endevour...so they scream "Prosecution!" because they cannot get their way.
