WASHINGTON (AP) - New Hampshire's largest newspaper on Sunday endorsed former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in the 2012 GOP presidential race, signaling that rival Mitt Romney isn't the universal favorite and potentially resetting the contest before the state's lead-off primary Jan. 10.

"We are in critical need of the innovative, forward-looking strategy and positive leadership that Gingrich has shown he is capable of providing," The New Hampshire Union Leader said in its front-page editorial, which was as much a promotion of Gingrich as a discreet rebuke of Romney.

"We don't back candidates based on popularity polls or big-shot backers. We look for conservatives of courage and conviction who are independent-minded, grounded in their core beliefs about this nation and its people, and best equipped for the job," the editorial said.

Romney enjoys solid leads in New Hampshire polls and remains at the front of the pack nationally. A poll released last week showed him with 42 percent support among likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire. Gingrich followed with 15 percent in the WMUR-University of New Hampshire Granite State poll.

Interesting they are choosing Newt for "forward-looking strategy and positive leadership" when he's lost in 1995. Maybe they like his pontificating style. Or his money making schemes.

Just shows how really terrible the choices are this year in the republican primaries. The whole crowd are a bunch of liars who will say anything those listening at the time want to hear. They all have flip flopped, and straight out lied to the american people and the constant change minds about who they want to run is evidence that none of them are up to the task, not in the eyes of the voters.

Mitt's biggest problem, though I think there are many others that are far more damaging, is his religion. So many that think they are "real" christians, can't see voting for him because in their view he is NOT a real christian, but a member of a cult. They dislike him so much they have gone from one candidate to another trying to find the "right" one, and have changed their minds almost on a monthly basis.

The tea party nuts can't seem to find anyone as crazy as they are, even Bachmann either is not crazy enough, or she is too crazy, I haven't figure out which one yet. Some like Paul don't stand a chance in the republican field and Huntsman seems to be way, way to sane for the far, far right wing nut jobs!

The only one left to jump to the top is Santorum, and his main problem is he is just plain weird, but I guess there is till time for him to make the big jump to the top!

I really don't thin Newt is going to last long with all the baggage he comes with, and all the ex-wives. He has a whole lot in his closet, and if the republicans don't bring it all out, and they seem to be working at doing just that, I am sure the democrats will be more than glad to show the country what kind of a person Newt really is!

I even hear today some people in NH I believe are gather money to try and get Palin to jump in. That's just how insane things are. I didn't catch the whole thing so I am not sure if they want her to jump in the republican primary, or if they were trying to get her to run as an independent.

I also heard that Johnson, I think that's his name he was in one debate that's all, is thinking about running as an independent also.

It just keeps getting better and better for president Obama!Clap

This group of republicans should make it easy for the president to cruise to another term. I just hate that the loudest mouths, that are supposedly on our side can really depress the vote. We have to get to the polls in 2012....screw the professional left and their negative, deranged attitudes.

I proudly support the President of the United States of America-Barack Hussein Obama

Gingrich endorsed by former SC lieutenant gov

November 28, 2011 01:38 PM EST | AP

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A former South Carolina lieutenant governor who once likened the state's poor to stray animals has endorsed Newt Gingrich's bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

Andre Bauer's endorsement Monday comes as Gingrich begins three days of campaigning in South Carolina, which holds the first Southern primary Jan. 21.

<..> He drew criticism for blaming South Carolina's high unemployment on people too lazy to do field work. He said his grandmother told him not to feed stray animals because they reproduce, as he spoke of people being dependent on state assistance.

Dang those pubs can really pick 'em. Newt gets the stray animals and Mitt gets the nazi equator. Facepalm

Go Newt. You'll be easier to beat than Romney IMO.
