NYPD Cop Taped Making Racial Slur About Black Man After Stop-and-Frisk
http://www.alternet.org/rights/152783/ny...and-frisk/
From the article: Quote:A New York City Police officer has been charged with a federal civil rights violation after prosecutors said he used a racial slur while bragging that he had falsely charged a black man with resisting arrest. The man was detained last spring in Staten Island as part of the department’s controversial stop-and-frisk policy. The stop-and-frisk actions are based on the Terry vs. Ohio (1967) Supreme Court case which allowed police to stop and frisk citizens when they had reasonable suspicion that a crime had been or was about to be committed. Only the NYPD has used the ruling so aggressively against black people. The officer in question was charged with a misdemeanor civil rights violation that carries a sentence of up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $100,000, prosecutors said. That's another problem, police get such light charges and sentences, if they're even charged at all, for such serious abuses of power. Pure unadulterated racism masquerading as "safety". They are doing this for no valid reason in mostly-black neighborhoods. This would never be done, much less tolerated, in mostly-white neighborhoods. Most racists don't wear pointed hoods and robes. |
