Dopey Relative
My aunt actually worked on the Obama campaign in 2008. She's a high drama sort of person. Everything happens to her - she is constantly falling or having her car break down or anything to get attention, subconsciously. At the same time, she is rabidly Catholic and anti-abortion. She talked herself into voting for Obama in spite of that. (Her brother, my Dad, voted for McCain solely on that issue, he is so obsessed with it - he is otherwise a liberal!).

She sends emails to everyone she knows (she has and everyone list) - mostly cute stuff, but some days so many that I just delete most of them. But then on occasion, she sends something annoying. I am lucky as she is the only one who sends me right wing emails.

So she sends one claiming she checked it on snopes, to the effect that National Prayer Day was cancelled while a similar day was set for Muslim, at the WH.

Someone on the list hit reply all and put the snopes link that it has been debunked.

I asked her on a reply only to her why do we need a National Prayer Day and does she really think Obama is a Muslim.

She replies: Because we are one nation under God and yes, I am starting to think Obama is a Muslim. Wow

She was a teacher who I had thought had some brains! Though she cannot keep a job, and now has lost her last one in teaching. Good teacher but could never get along with staff or students. She is also a racist (would not admit it) and occasionally sends some very bad emails on that, and some of the recipients are black people, who are on her list! It is a mother and daughter, and they are patient with Auntie - once the daughter just hit reply all to comment on how racist the joke was.

I don't intend to unsubscribe or block her for the entertainment value, but thought I'd let you know just how illogical some voters can be!

Maybe her self interests will take over and she'll work for Obama again. She is is horrible financial shape, and as you can see, that trumped her antiabortion stance in 2008.

If it wasn't for selfish, reactionary one-issue voters, the Republican party would fold in 10 minutes.

They are indeed the Party of Hate.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

Yes. Trying to convince them that the Republicans are never going to do anything with abortion and deprive themselves of that wedge issue is the best one can do with them. They are liberals otherwise! We are Catholic, but I cannot see why abortion has to be the number one and only issue we vote on.

Obama isn't Muslim but what would it matter if he was? Shrug
I don't understand people who care about the president's religion.

I don't understand that either az. I don't care what religion someone practices, as long as they keep it outside politics.

Exactly, az! Steve Jobs' biological father is a Syrian Muslim..so what? As someone who is non religious but believes in good..I stand back and look at the ugliness perpetrated by fanatics of any "religion".

Do these kind of "religious" people even know what hypocrites they are? Do they care?

I don't think they know. They are blinded by fear instead of being embraced by love.

RE: Dopey Relative
Remind her of two things:

1. "One nation under God" is a line in the pledge of allegiance added during Eisenhower's time in office, as a swipe at Soviet atheism. It is NOT the law of the land.

2. Even if Obama were a Muslim, he would be worshipping the same God that Christians and Jews do. All three religions revere the "God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob" even if they call him by different names.

DISCLAIMER: If she cannot be persuaded by facts (which I suspect will be the case, as I have similar family members), just walk away. You did your best.

Yes, because kicking them in the nads or other acts of violence are frowned upon.

She's always been a nut about school prayer. I am pretty patient and remind her over and over that nothing stops her from praying and practicing her religion and so why does she need the government to help out, and if it did, what if it switched to another religion?

Yet she is liberal otherwise! That family is liberal - their parents raised them in the Depression and the years after it. Their Dad had some job under WPA, or some program of FDR's New Deal. Then they went nuts because of Roe v. Wade.

Build themselves up by putting others down. Intimidating and degrading others is at the root of the Republican Party.
