at 11am est. Yesterday the doctors said they would update daily on her, and others conditions. Just FYI.

Presser on now. Dr's saying Gabrielle Giffords continues to respond to commands. She is still on the vent and deeply sedated and will be for a few more days at least. They do not know if she will be able to speak when the vent is removed. They say 4-5 days to see if the brain swelling will occur, so far it's ok due to part of her skull being taken off to allow her brain to relax. They are cautiously optimistic in her outlook.

I read a pretty detailed article on what happened to her, and how the surgery went, in today's LA Times. Considering that she had a bullet in (and through) her brain, she is doing remarkably well. I hope it continues.

I don't think I've taken two consecutive full breaths since this happened. "Doing remarkably well" is quite miraculous, and I'm so happy to hear this!

It really is remarkable that she lived through this ordeal. I will continue to hold out hope she will make a strong recovery.
