Scary look into the warped Walker supporter mindset
A guy I know, who used to be a confirmed Democrat, but has fallen into a right-wing rut, sent me a link to the Scott Walker Facebook campaign site. I looked at some of the comments. Although it is comforting that many (if not most!) of the supporting comments seem to come from an active-but-small group of people who have nothing else to do (paid to do this?), the anger, vitriol, bile, and pure hate coming from them gives a good insight into the Republican mindset, ans what we are up against--and what a few billion dollars of right-wing money buys, courtesy of Citizens United.

If you dare, and haven't eaten recently, it's worth a look, just for educational purposes.

In my friend's defense, he is from rural South Carolina, in his late sixties, overweight, and suffers from two addictions (nicotine and alcohol), either of which could flare up and kill him within six months. He may no longer be playing with a full deck. These things start slowly.

This won't help:

Opinion
Our View | Gubernatorial Recall Election
We recommend Walker; his removal isn't justified
May 19, 2012

No governor in recent memory has been so controversial. No governor in America is so polarizing. Everyone has an opinion about Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin.

Here's ours: We see no reason to remove Walker from office. We recommend him in the June 5 recall election.

Walker's rematch with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was prompted by one issue: Walker's tough stance with the state's public-employee unions. It's inconceivable that the recall election would be occurring absent that. And a disagreement over a single policy is simply not enough to justify a vote against the governor.

<..> It's time to end the bickering and get back to the business of the state. We've had our differences with the governor, but he deserves a chance to complete his term. We recommended him in 2010. We see no reason to change that recommendation. We urge voters to support Walker in the June 5 recall election.

Big paper standing up for Walker's gutting the state. No, Walker doesn't deserve to finish his term, the man has shown his stripes. Facepalm

I saw that editorial and my jaw dropped. Gray Davis was basically removed from the Sacramento State House by design after the Cheney-Enron meeting at the Bush White House, and for no other reason than that he was a Democrat. And yet Walker, who has committed every impeachable offense except serial murder, deserves to stay? What does he have to do, behead babies on live TV before it becomes obvious to the Sentinel that he is corrupt?

Who are you calling a whippersnapper? I just turned sixty myself this year! But my friend looks 25 years older than I do, and that's after dying his hair (I don't).

"Once being a Democrat" is not a guarantee of anything, especially anymore. Current Democrats seem to have a real issue with hemorrhaging one time supporters to things like Disappointment Syndrome, Ron Paul Hypnosis and the grandaddy of them all - a life sobering event (disease, divorce, accident etc).

Then there are the conservative Democrats who are only a couple of rulings on gay marriage away from abandoning the Party to go vote with the bigots on the other side who want to "protect our traditions" that really aren't traditions to begin with.

Unfortunately, we are tenuous people.

RE: Scary look into the warped Walker supporter mindset
That's true enough. All the "family values" crowd and the warriors for "traditional" American ways usually turn out to be people whose lives are anything but. Divorced several times, yet trumpeting marriage restrictions of "one man, one woman," championing "small government," yet cheering on government intrusions into our personal lives that might have embarrassed the Spanish Inquisition.

That is the Republican mindset--or part of it, anyway. No wonder they have to spend so many multiples of the Democratic budget to have a chance. On an even playing field, they'd be polling at around 3%. The money they are spending proves that they know it, too.

Want to win the WI Recall? Make sure this story goes as wide as humanly possible
by Magorn

Certainly the litany of Scott Walker's sins is long and varied: Gross mismanagement, worst in the nation Job numbers, union-busting, billionaire toadying, and good old fashioned political corruption and criminal activity. But the fact is, anyone upset about these things is already voting against him, and many polls still have the race tied or ahead. So to win this thing, we need a wedge issue that peels off some of his support, particularly in his Northern WI base areas. Fortunately Scott Walker has just handed us just such a wedge on a sliver platter in his appointment of Dr. James Kroll as the State's "deer Czar". You see Dr. Kroll considers allowing hunters to hunt for free on state-managed game lands, "the last bastion of communism" and want to do away with it altogether.

Even if you think this issue doesn't matter because you've never shot an animal with anything other than a camera, if you want the Dems to win the recall election you need to spread this story as far and wide as possible. Because, trust me, there are people in WI for who this will REALLY matter, and they're precisely the people we need to reach. Let me explain:

<..> The point is this story need to be a topic of furious statewide discussion and we've only got two weeks to make it happen. This story is a gift from heaven, an equalizer in a race heavily skewed by floods of billionaire support for their mascot Scotty Walker. But all the money in the world can't un-piss off a voter that thinks he's about to take their deer huntin' away. But it is up to us to make sure they know that's what's going on. As they say in hunt country around here: Release the hounds

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/05/20...etail=hide

I can see where taking away hunting grounds would piss people off. Around here the day deer season opens the hunters are out there.

I can believe it, jaxx! The guys in my family who live in Oregon are all avid hunters and if someone started messing with their hunting grounds, there would be hell to pay.

Oh, they've messed with hunters in Wisconsin. They've really done it now.
