My mom says it's the result of growing up in the neighborhood. My dad's first words to my mom were "you'd be real cute if you lost a few pounds". When I asked her WTF she chose to pursue a relationship with someone like that, she said everyone she knew lived in the same neighborhood...they all had the same circle of people...it's just what people did. I guess growing up in a condemned apartment doesn't do much for the self esteem, not to mention her own mom's example wasn't great.
That's what is sad...these 30 kids have such a poor example, how many of them will just continue the cycle?

In this case sterlization would be
necessary. Even if he had all of the education and protection he is not the kind of guy that would use it.
30 kids = ridiculous

This guy has to have something else going on to have 30 kids, it's just weird.
On that note, you know what really chaps my ass? I DO NOT WANT KIDS. But nobody will allow me to have any permanent sterilization procedure. They only allow you to do it if you already have given birth. Like people just can't believe that someone wouldn't want at least one kid.
I wish they would trust me to make my own decision concerning my body.

I hear you, SCQ. I had my tubes tied after my daughter was born (yeah, not exactly the same situation you are in), and my lord, I had to answer the same questions from several doctors about whether I was absolutely sure I wanted this done. When one of them said, "Well, what if you meet someone who wants to have children?" (I was divorced.). I was so exasperated by that time that I said, "If that was the case, I'd tell him he'd have to find another brood mare!"
So sorry you are facing this.

RE: Idiocracy in action.
There is something wrong with this guy. Apparently it's a blanket ailment that is not unheard of:
Anti-Gay Republican Pol Leaves Wife For Sperm Donor Babies
Bill Johnson, a former Alabama gubernatorial candidate, has left his wife and family in Prattville to be with babies he secretly conceived as a sperm donor in New Zealand.
Johnson’s wife, Kathy Hale Johnson, told the New Zealand Herald that Johnson recently returned to live in New Zealand where he donated sperm to at least 10 women without her knowledge.
......
She said Johnson plans to apply for residency so he can stay in New Zealand, and that he intends to donate sperm to additional women.
“He is obsessed with this. He doesn’t want to stop,” she said.
