Rand Paul Signs Fundraising Email Calling For Congress To Simply Ignore Roe v. Wade

Earlier today, the National Review’s mailing list distributed an email (which can also be found here) signed by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), which called for Congress to pass a law effectively rendering a binding Supreme Court decision a nullity:

Quote:Working from what the Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade, pro-life lawmakers can pass a Life at Conception Act and end abortion using the Constitution instead of amending it. . . . Signing the Life at Conception Act petition will help break through the opposition clinging to abortion-on-demand and get a vote on this life-saving bill to overturn Roe v. Wade.

A Life at Conception Act declares unborn children “persons” as defined by the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, entitled to legal protection.

<..> Whether one agrees with this opinion or not, Congress does not have the power to flout the Supreme Court’s constitutional decisions simply because it does not like them. As ThinkProgress explained when a similar proposal was floated last year by Princeton Professor Robert George, “[i]n City of Boerne v. Flores, the Court held that Congress is not allowed to simply declare that the 14th Amendment means whatever they want it to mean and then use that declaration to pass enforcement legislation — Congress can only pass laws enforcing existing 14th Amendment rights.”

That act would definiitely see a date with the SC as it intereferes with the very rights of women under the amendment it seeks protection.

He is nothing but a shill for the Plutocrats, a real and actual Libertarian (of which none exist) would not have the government interfere with personal rights, including reproduction rights, in any way.

I find it astounding how many people are fooled by charlatans like the Pauls.
There are enormous amounts of simple-minded people in this nation.

This is a supreme frustration in my life, and I've spoken of it before. I am completely baffled by the otherwise intelligent, progressive and somewhat enlightened people who have been fooled by the Pauls. Just try talking to them about, you're in for a real treat. It's like talking to a wall. They just blink and wave their Ron Paul sign.

I've been calling it Paul Hypnosis, because I don't know what else could be responsible for it.

I hear you, Kona. I was talking to my son-in-law's best friend one day, and the talk turned to politics. He does favor Obama, but he then said that he was also considering voting for Ron Paul. This guy doesn't smoke pot (that I know of), so I'm thinking it's Paul's anti-war stance. I didn't try to talk to him about the real Ron Paul; there were a lot of people there and lots going on, but I did walk away thinking, "How can this very intelligent young man even THINK of voting for Ron Paul?"

A familiar conundrum to me. The only possible explanation I can come up with is the omniscient "Obama Disappointment Syndrome" (tangent of Obama Derangements Syndrome) where some are so crushingly disappointed that this president didn't pull back an economy from the brink of collapse AND deliver them a silver platter of unicorns, candy and rainbows, that they are taking their football home and voting for anyone else.

Beyond bizarre. Beyond immature.
