Report: Sheldon Adelson To Fork Up $10M More For Gingrich

<..> In a move that could again dramatically shake up the Republican primary race, billionaire and major Republican donor Sheldon Adelson is expected to donate an additional $10 million to the super PAC supporting Newt Gingrich, Winning Our Future, a source with knowledge of the donation told CNN.

I read that Newt had hired some handlers in DC. Hmmm this makes $21m from the Adelson's.

It's scary that President Obama raise nearly 30 million
for himself and the DNC after an entire month and this guy is able to toss around 20 million like it's nothing. Guess speech in the US is no longer free and it is now limited to the 1%. Fuck you Citizens United and the right wing American hating GOP judges that helped to destroy our once great nation!

I second that emotion, Mav. Nothing to add.

I'm glad you put that into perspective Mav. This is really buying an election by the Citizens United decision. I hope it pans out that reality wins out over the money and people vote for President Obama as the future. The dirty ads will be rampant when the GOP decides on a nominee.....and they will take no prisoners when it comes to trying to destroy PBO.

My one hope is that the abuse by the uber wealthy on the right to try and influence power will so overcome people that the congress will take it up.. and clean it up.. this cannot stand.. and have our democracy stand..

Gingrich Patron Set to Donate Another $10 Million
The donation may help Newt inject himself back into what has increasingly become a two-man race between Santorum and Romney.
By Ankita Rao and Josh Voorhees | Posted Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at 10:29 AM ET

<..> CNN's sources say that the eight-figure donation will come before the end of the month, while CBS's suggest that it could happen within days. Adelson had previously suggested that his further financial support of Gingrich was in doubt, and signaled that he'd be ready and willing to back Romney if the time came.

The Wall Street Journal, which reported earlier this week that Adelson was considering cutting another check, suggests that the billionaire's goal is to derail Rick Santorum's campaign as much as it is to help Gingrich's. Adelson is reportedly concerned about some of Santorum's deeply conservative social views, such as his strong anti-abortion stance, and is worried that he wouldn't be able to compete with President Obama in a general election showdown.

Interesting that Santorum's far out religious views are too much for the Gingrich supporter.

It occurs to me --
With all these billionaires throwing tens of millions of dollars at GOP candidates, it brings into sharp relief the FACT that they won't miss a meal or go broke if they are made to pay a 30% tax rate on capital gains. With each check they write to Gingrich, Santorum and Romney, they give the country written proof they can well afford to pay the same tax rates as the rest of us.

Yes, the idea that taxing them at higher rates will somehow "hurt" them, or stop them from "creating jobs", is pure BS. These guys spend money like it's nothing will millions here in the US are out of work, on unemployment, or barely making ends meet working for minimum wage. These people don't care about anything but control the congress so they can get what they want, when they want it, and that needs to change.

As Peacetrain staid, I too hope the people get so mad about this that they demand congress put a stop to it! If we can vote a bunch of the tea party clowns out this year, along with a some of the republicans that have been blocking everything in the House, maybe we can do something about it. If members of congress see those who have been supporting this idea that the rich can "buy" congress, maybe they will wake up and do what is right, at least for fear they too will be voted out in their next election.

 nonono Money, money, money
I read that less than 200 contributors are responsible for over 80% of the money streaming into the Republicans. That means that without these guys, the Republicans would have an advertising budget good for semi-monthly quarter-page black and white ads in "Boys Life."

Fine, so let Adelson, Friess and Romney pour a couple hundred million in trying to dumb down America to the point where it will vote one of these three clowns into office.
Reminds me of W, , except that W never won the presidential elections. He only won the aftermath.

It is starting to look as if all these rich guys throwing money at the Republican primaries are just playing a high stakes game of "King of the Hill".

Wait till they have a nominee and they all throw their $$$ behind him. President Obama is going to need big money to hold his own against them. I bet they're making the ads already.

Yes once they have a nominee, there will be a lot of money coming their way to defeat the president, but I think that the american people are not happy with their government being bought by the highest bidders. I have heard a lot of republicans who are not happy about all the money that is now allowed to be spent in elections.

Even republicans are afraid of who they will get simply because they had the most money. I remember at least on state, can't remember which one, out west that passed a law putting stop to the big money coming to their state to elect state and local leaders. Now granted some of those republicans who are against it might only be worried about democrats getting elected, but if enough people in the country on both sides of the political spectrum get mad enough something may bet done to stop it.

One thing for sure, we do NOT need anymore republicans on the Supreme Court who will pass this kind of insane ruling.

RE: Adelson To Fork Up $10M More For Gingrich
The Supreme Court is, like last time, one of the most important unspoken issues in this election.

It's almost sure that Ruth Bader-Ginsburg will have to retire sometime in the next four years. We need Obama to nominate her replacement just to maintain the four seats we do have. It's possible that Kennedy and Scalia will hold out beyond 2016, but Scalia has bad eating habits (check his girth) and Kennedy will be 80 in 2016. This doesn't mean either will retire, of course. Meanness seems to be a sustaining trait into longevity (Strom Thurmond was a 100 year old Senator, don't forget).

At least it's good for the economy to spread that money around, and that helps President Obama. Cool
