Were Democrats debating in the summer of 2003 or 2007? I don't remember that. This is a potemkin primary to give them a free media platform to beat up on Obama. They can't win with the crap they're actually doing in the House, so they're going to have this dog and pony show instead.

The first Democratic debate was in the evening of April 26, 2007, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, at South Carolina State University. State party chairman Joe Erwin said that he chose South Carolina State because it is a historically black college, noting that African-Americans have been the "most loyal" Democrats in the state.[8] The debate was 90 minutes with a 60-second time limit for answers, and no opening or closing statements.[9] It was broadcast via cable television and online video streaming by MSNBC.[10]

The debate was moderated by Brian Williams of NBC Nightly News. Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire sent two students to cover the debate on location who gained spin room access.

The major issue discussed was the Iraq War, with all candidates strongly criticizing President George W. Bush.[9] Although there was some initial hype,[11] the debate was seen by pundits as unspectacular, with no single "breakout" candidate.[11][12] A poll of 403 South Carolina debate watchers indicated that they believed Senator Barack Obama won the debate with 31% to Clinton's 24%.[13] However, Tom Baldwin of The Times and Ewen MacAskill of The Guardian both reported that Clinton appeared to retain her frontrunner status.[14]

Political pundits such as Chris Matthews, Howard Fineman, Keith Olbermann and Joe Scarborough declared that Clinton was the most "presidential", in that her appearance and answers were succinct, within the time limit and thorough, leaving no second-guesses. They effectively called her the winner.

With regards to the solid third-polled candidate Former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC), pundits varied, with some asserting that his performance was weak and not the usual energetic performance that he portrayed in 2003, when he first ran. Howard Fineman also opined that questions regarding his $400 haircut and his "Two Americas" theme are under fire because of severe discrepancies, threatening his main campaign theme.

Walk down memory lane!

Well yeah, I suppose so, now that I think for two minutes. By this time in 2008 it was pretty much all over but the horse-trading. Thank You.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

Don't forget Ron Paul and his endless jihad against the Fed.

My god, they keep pressing for policies that we have tried many times before that NEVER WORKED!

"Obama is a failure" - he avoided a full-blown Depression. What else could he have done in the face of Republican failures? Shrug

States rights states rights states rights.....I thought somebody would fire on Fort Sumter before it was over. Jeez to listen to them you'd think we don't need a federal government at all.

I heard a bunch of lies. If the President watched he must have been scratching his head and wondering why they avoided the Bush2 years as if they had never happened.

lol Jaxx! Ah these poor sods. They don't stand a chance of winning. All but one will lose this race and then the winner in this sorry lot of losers will get beaten in '12 by the President. All the while they will be spewing reich-wing talking points and trying to out-do each other to win the lunatic base. It will translate into lots and lots of low-hanging fruit for Stewart & Colbert, etc.

By the time this primary plays out all the contenders, even the winner, will be bloody and bruised, with massive amounts of money being spent. It will be very hard fought and I am going out on a limb here to say, it's gonna get dirty. Reeeeal dirty.

I for one cannot wait! We can devise fun drinking games for the upcoming "debates", sharing laughs with my Dem friends while working together on mailings/fundraisers/campaigns and all manner of good times, all thanks to the GOP clowncar.

Fun times ahead! Beer

Julie--looking forward to it

To prepare for when your life flashes before your eyes, make sure it's fun to watch.

There was not one thing about this that was a debate. It was just a constant stream of flatulence aimed at the Obama administration.

I still don't think any of these people will be the nominee.

They'll be destroying each other in a few months....tonight they were just spouting talking points. And when Sister Sarah came up as in who made the best VP selection.....I thought they'd all get down and kiss the floor.
