RE: F'n Orrin Hatch to condemn Obama on 1967 borders
No matter this has been policy for some time from what I understand.
The way the Israeli lobby makes everyone quake is amazing.

Like every other country on Earth, the state of Israel will put their interests first over that of any ally, no matter how much money we give them.
Shit, prove to me that they're an ally, nevermind the "strongest" bit. What in the world have they ever done for us? I'm not sure I can name a thing.

George Bush the 1st was able to talk them into not bombing anyone during the first Gulf War so that the coalition invading Iraq didn't fall apart before things got started.
And that's how our relationships goes generally. We try to talk them out of doing something rash. Sometimes they listen, other times not so much. They're more like that annoying friend who hangs around you and mostly gets you into trouble all the time.

I, too, wonder what benefit this "friendship" brings us, other than worldwide scorn?

I honestly don't know. There was a time when it genuinely was the right thing to do to support Israel almost blindly. That time has passed ... long passed.
However, I posted a video elsewhere that deals primarily with apocalyptic interpretations of the religious texts, and in it the presenter comments that the real problem with this is that people take it seriously and try to make it all come about. That is a very large part of the answer to this. We support Israel blindly because we're afraid not to, and others do so because the believe by doing so they will play their part in bringing out Armageddon, which they think of as a good thing.

Republicans, stuck on stupid since 1994.
Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid
The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous
