Idaho Gov. Butch Otter Signs Executive Order That Will End Medicaid In His State

Sadly, Idaho Gov. Butch Otter ( R ) did not heed the attorney general’s warning. Although Otter vetoed a nullification bill attacking the ACA yesterday, he also issued an executive order which effectively forbids his state from participating in Medicaid as soon as the ACA goes into full effect.

Otter’s executive order forbids state agencies from implementing “any provisions” of the ACA, and it provides that “[n]o executive branch department, agency, institution or employee of the State shall accept or expend federal funds to implement the provisions of the ACA.”

Presently, Idaho receives over $1 billion in federal grants to administer its Medicaid program — an amount that equals approximately two-fifths of the state’s overall budget. If the state gave up this money, it would have to chose between eliminating health coverage for the 223,198 Idahoans who currently depend on Medicaid or implementing similarly draconian cuts such as slashing its public schools budget by 85 percent.

That's just it, they DON'T think at all, they just do insane things like this in order to please the special interest groups that are buying them off! These kind of insane bills should be used from now till election day to show the people of this country just how insane republicans are becoming!

223,198 people in Idaho are going to be really pissed off and I am sure some of them are republicans and teabaggers, sow what will they do? Not only those who get medicade help, but their family members really need to think about what is happening. Same goes around the country where republicans who they listen to the people, and yet ignore every poll that comes out saying the people of this country are not happy with what they are doing, are destroying this country!

For the life of me I just don't understand why they are doing this, do they really think the american people are so stupid they can't see through this crap?

Yes. And for their constituents who aren't stupid enough, they think they can easily bring them around.

But some of the town halls I'm hearing about lately, where GOP are defending Ryan's "dismantle Medicare," are proving otherwise.

Yes I too have been reading about some of those, and it looks like they may "THINK" they can fool the people, but the people are speaking out and it's not looking good for Ryan's bill! They keep saying the are doing what the people want, yet their actions say otherwise!

And what that governor says is that he wants Idaho to develop their own health care solutions, and not have to do things the way the federal govt wants them to.

i don't know if it's "we do things our own way out here in the Wild West," or that he doesn't like Obama.

Idaho is about as red as they can bee, but things like this could change that! It's not just those who will lose their medicare, but also those family members and friends who are going ticked off also!

Do you think the Teabaggers realize that 30% of Medicaid funds go for the costs of nursing home care for the elderly?

And that many of those people are middle class folks who've exhausted other resources? They may not be happy to discover that they're going to have to fork over $60,000 a year for mama or daddy's care.

Talk about "Death Tax". But since it's only about depriving the middle classes of inheritance, I guess it's okay.

I don't think most of the teabaggers really know what is going on. The right has pretty much brainwashed them into buying whatever it is they hear on fox news, and from the likes of Rush and Beck. By the time they figure out just what is going on it will be to late for them, and they will be in the same boat as everyone else if we don't stop the republicans!

The old saying "there is a sucker born every minute" seems to be working well for the republican party and they want everyone of those suckers on their side!
