Bomb tears through government HQ in Oslo; 2 dead

OSLO, Norway (AP) - A powerful bomb tore into the heart of Norway on Friday, killing at least two people and injuring 15 as it ripped open buildings including the prime minister's office. It was the deadliest bombing since World War II in Oslo, normally associated with the Nobel Peace Prize that is awarded there.

Elsewhere, a gunman dressed in a police uniform opened fire at a Labor Party youth camp at Utoya, an island outside Oslo, on Friday, shooting several youths, party spokesman Per Gunnar Dahl told The Associated Press. He said unconfirmed reports said five people were hit as panicked youth tried to escape the island swimming.

Norway attacks: At least 87 dead in shootings at youth conference, Oslo explosion

Two apparently coordinated attacks hit Norway on Friday, with at least 80 people shot to death at a youth political conference outside Oslo after a massive explosion in the capital’s government district killed at least seven people, according to Norwegian police.

The attacks, which added up to the largest in Norway since World War II, stunned a country better known for the Nobel Peace Prize than for violence and seemed sure to force a cultural shift in an open society in which government buildings are lightly protected.

Found answer to my own question - the helicopter was not on standby, so the swat team drove and then had trouble finding a boat - took them a long time to get onto the island.

From what I've read he posed as a policeman and gathered the kids around him and then started shooting. When they tried to get away he shot them in the water too.
