Frack frack. Who's there?
We took today's fracking protest to the offices of the company that just got whacked by the state for their reckless drilling practices. The company, Ranchers Exploration, was not happy about the protest but kind of took the attitude of big deal, let 'em protest, who cares, whatever -- and then they closed up shop until Monday. So, we kinda sorta borrowed their sheltered porch by their front door to get out of the rain for a bit and let a couple of signs dry off.

It had been in the 80s until last night, today it was in the low 40s. Bit of a hefty transition, but we still managed a good turnout.

As I was unloading my walker and signs I was approached by a fellow who smiled and noted my many bumper stickers. "Y'know, my father fought and bled in World War II for the right to benefit from his own land." Oh, boy. Here we go. "You people have no idea what you're talking about." Actually, yes we do. "And you're such hypocrites! You hate oil, but you drove here in cars that need petroleum!" Dude, it's about an extraction process that is beyond hazardous. Go online, google Pavillion WY. "You people have no right to take my rights away!" As opposed to your right to make all of us sick? "You are so stupid!" Sigh.

He stomped off to bug a few more people, studiously avoiding the man I'd pointed out to him, the one who'd spent years researching this subject and had all kinds of documentation to provide. But before he left he talked to one of the reporters present and is quoted in one of the articles linked below.

We were pleased by the 85% positive driveby response, lots of honking and waving and thumbs up. We were especially delighted by the honks and waves from a city bus and several school buses leaving the nearby high school; a couple of the boys flipped us off, but most of those kids were smiling and waving.

And we FINALLY got some decent press coverage, although the Denver Post didn't show after they said they would (that kind of thing getting to be a habit for them).

“All we want is to exercise our God-given rights,” he said. from the Coloradoan article. I get so tired of the wingers using god to make their case.

Sounds like you had a meaningful protest madame. I salute you and your friends!

I never realized that god gave anyone the right to poison another persons water supply.
