Second, I spent most of my life as an ex-pat. I grew up in the U.S. military. And I can tell you that I was never ashamed of my country, not even when Reagan was President (I was too young to really understand what was going on behind that sunny smile). All that changed almost overnight when George Bush got handed the White House. I didn't even travel overseas during his time in office, because I was too damned ashamed. You know who turned that around? Barack Obama. Thanks to Barack, I can go to Paris again without having to pretend I'm Canadian or British.

Third, I'm a New Yorker. I was at home having my morning coffee when some assholes from the Middle East flew planes into the World Trade Center. Front row seats, ladies and gentlemen. Who had really deep business relationships with the home countries and governments of said assholes? George Bush and his puppet master, one Dick Cheney, that's who. Who doesn't have those relationships? That's right again, the guy whose name means 'Lightning' in Arabic and Hebrew, and who has all the right people freaking out that he's supposedly from Kenya and a secret Muslim to boot, because that would be such a terrible thing. Fuck them.

Excellent diary! Thanks for bringing that here, I rarely go to Kos as it is difficult for me to navigate. I have to say, that first sentence sure sounded like CTLawGuy. :-)

It was quickly met with a "I don't intent to apologize for disliking Obama" diary - that also made the rec list. The diarist "doesn't know" who he's voting for in 2012.

On typical "Democratic" blogs I often feel like the blacks sheep for supporting Obama. One of the fringe 84% of Liberal Democrats who approve of the job he's doing.

If you don't dislike our President you won't be popular with our party's fringe element that is under the delusion they are the cool kids.

Is there a single, goddamned white liberal out there who gets that when an African-American man ascends to the presidency of the United States on his own merits; when said man plucks the plum of being the "leader of the free world" from the reach of powerful political entities who KNEW it was theirs for the having; when this man fights against the status quo and emerges victorious, and your very life was saved in the process -- that is a good sign that he is indeed a TRANSFORMATIVE FIGURE! Oh, and did I mention he's black! The first black man to triumph over the "conventional wisdom," horrific death threats, and virulent racism to become POTUS, and then to champion and sign legislation that couldn't get done in the entire history of this country/since the Reagan years IS transformative!!!!!! Goddamit!
