Why Mitt Romney would NOT have ordered the Bin Laden raid
that killed Bin Laden. Basically because he said so. Romney is a neo con, and if he had been in office, we still would be in Iraq..and Afghanistan with no withdrawal dates to count on that their populace could prepare start to defend themselves.
Add to that nearly all his foreign advisers are Bush era neo cons.
He cannot get away from it.. he would not have done it..

In the campaign’s first major election speech on foreign policy, Vice President Joe Biden made extremely prominent use of an April 2007 Romney quote on bin Laden, in which he told the Associated Press “it’s not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person.”

“I was a little more direct,” Biden said in his speech. “We will follow the SOB to the gates of hell.”

Romney’s “heaven and earth” line proved a gaffe at the time as well. Sen. John McCain, who tried to portray Romney throughout the race as weak on national security, told blogger Jennifer Rubin that “it takes a degree of naiveté to think [bin Laden is] not an element in the struggle against radical Islam.”

Willard can go on and on about anybody would have done it, but I think he's wrong. Anybody could have ordered the bombing of bin Laden's compound, and might have done so. Of course it would be hard to prove they got him.

Instead President Obama ordered the Seals to go in and remove OBL from Pakistan. His capture, or death, could be proven which would be a huge blow to al-Qaeda. And so it was. The tough order was given, the rest is history.

I find it highly unlikely that "anybody would have done it".

Even the Presidents own advisers were split on it.. so his assertion "anyone" would have done it.. ring pretty hollow!

Yep. And it's awfully easy for someone who wasn't sitting in the Big Chair in the Oval Office to make that statement, but I would bet (not $10,000 -- I don't have that much) that it wouldn't have been an easy decision for Mittens either. In fact, I would go so far as to say he wouldn't have done it because he doesn't like to take chances where the responsibility for the outcome would fall on him.

I believed then, and I still believe, that ordering the Seals to take out Osama was one hell of a gutsy call.

Silence is consent.

Heard someone yesterday on NPR talking about the CIA in Afghanistan and how they'd lost almost all their personnel to Iraq during the Bush years, so there really was no one available to deal with OBL, so I think Peacetrain's comments about Romney wouldn't have made the call are absolutely on target.

Suzie he has so embraced the neo cons.. I just don't think that Romney has the internal fortitude to have done that.. I am going to watch that Bryan Williams special on the attack tonight... I guess the President really did go out completely alone on this.. against his own advisers.

Can you imagine someone who changes his positions the way most people change underwear going that alone.Grin
