Judge issues temporary restraining order against Michigan Republicans

As I wrote about last week, Michigan Democrats have filed a lawsuit against their GOP colleagues, demanding that they hold roll call votes on “immediate effect” bills when they are requested. Again, the right to ask for a roll call vote if one-fifth of the House members request it is guaranteed in the state constitution.

<..> Today, Ingham County Circuit Judge Clinton Canady III granted them a Temporary Restraining Order, compelling the Republicans to play by the rules.

Republicans pulled this stunt recently when passing a bill that prevents graduate student assistants from organizing and collectively bargaining. One of the students impacted by this was Jeremy Moore, a Graduate Student Research Assistant in the Engineering Department at the University of Michigan. “When politicians in Lansing took away my ability to join with my coworkers and form a union, they trampled on my democratic rights,” she said. “The way that House Republicans rammed the legislation through without regard for the state constitution also trampled on the rights of all Michiganders. I am glad the courts are taking a serious look at this issue.”

That was an excellent segment that Rachel did. The Repubs in Michigan (as in other areas) have lost their damned minds.

They are ripping that state to shreds. I read Eclectablog every day. The blog's author lives in Michigan and he is excellent at reporting the stuff that's going on there.

I saw that and was stunned! They can't get away with that! I think the feds need to step in and do something if they can. What the pukes in Michigan are doing must not go unchallenged!

It seems that we should empty out all the Michigan prisons and put the Republicans in for a good long term. I would like to see that take effect immediately. How on earth can they even claim to be Americans? They are the worst of the worst--all traitors trying to destroy the democracy of this country. They need to be stopped!!

This is literally shocking and one of the most anti-democratic things I've seen in years. Almost as anti-Democratic as taking over entire cities - mostly black dominated cities to boot.

Is Michigan going to be the next Wisconsin?


BTW, Rachel said on her show tonight that this report "blew up" and that she's now made the segment easily accessible on her blog for all those who now are finding out about this hugely revealing report.

Republicans are no better than common criminals when they pull this sort of stunt.
