Sanford commissioners vote no-confidence in police chief over Trayvon Martin slaying investigation
by Meteor Blades

<..> Commissioners voted 3-2 in a no confidence in the police chief. The three that voted they had no confidence in Police Chief Bill Lee were Mayor Jeff Triplett and Commissioners Velma Williams and Mark McCarty. It's not clear what this motion means for the police chief.

McCarty said at the meeting that Police Chief Bill Lee should step down. Commissioner Patty Mahany disagreed with McCarty. They said they wanted wait for all the facts to come in to decide on firing or requiring resignation.

The commissioners are also moving their regular Monday meeting to the 600-seat civic auditorium in anticipation of a large turnout.

The wheels are beginning to turn. What else is in the police chiefs record? What kind of dept does he run?

jaxx, did you see Lawrence and the Reverend Al interview the Sanford city manager on Lawrence's show tonight? Al really got after him for the CM's hesitancy at firing the police chief. Must-see TV!

Silence is consent.

<..> Bonaparte said suspending chief Lee is one of the "options" for him "to consider." Bonaparte confirmed he has the ability to fire the police chief at any time. And pressure is mounting from the public to get rid of Lee and arrest shooter George Zimmerman, who claimed self defense in the shooting under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law.

"I’ve stated that I want to know, as the city manager, did the Sanford police do things they shouldn't have done? Or did they not do things that they should have done?" he said on The Last Word. "That's the basis on the information that I would make a determination on moving forward with the Sanford Police Department."

Bonaparte said he's not currently satisfied with some of the responses from Chief Lee.

They were really tough on the guy, asking great questions and bringing up good issues. I bet Rev. Al does see him tomorrow.

I bet he does too.

You know, I wonder if part of the hesitancy on the city manager's part is race-related. The city manager is, of course, black and the chief of police is white. This whole thing is about race. As the city manager, he DOES have the right to fire the police chief, but still, I wonder.....

It very well could be. They say the tensions are high there and going at it methodically might be the better way at the moment.
