This World: The Mormon Candidate - jaxx - 04-21-2012 06:36 PM Published on Apr 5, 2012 by Tr3Vel0cita BBC2 27 March 2012 John Sweeney investigates the beliefs of Mitt Romney, the man most likely to take on Barack Obama later this year, and asks whether America is ready for a Mormon president. This was interesting, not making judgements but asking and discussing questions about it and the practices. RE: This World: The Mormon Candidate - KonaKane - 04-21-2012 06:42 PM Mormons, who well know the beliefs, should be very concerned about this if they want a president before they want a theocracy. RE: This World: The Mormon Candidate - jaxx - 04-21-2012 06:58 PM Some of the people interviewed did say that Romney would have a hard time going against his beliefs. I think it said he was a bishop in the church, had his own flock of several thousand people. RE: This World: The Mormon Candidate - Willinois - 04-21-2012 07:47 PM I got through the first 20 minutes. It wasn't a hatchet job like I assumed it would be. There are many issues that can be raised about Romney's faith. The trick for Democrats will be avoiding anything that looks misleading or bigoted. Obama is better off letting evangelicals fight among themselves about Romney's religion and saying nothing about it. Ted Kennedy attacking Romney's religion was not one of his finer moments given the Kennedy family history of breaking religious barriers. Like that Jeffress who says Mormonism is a cult, but will support Willard anyway. But it is interesting that some things are demanded.....like a years worth of stored food. I've never heard of a ward with more than a few hundred people. Funny, that's the one correct thing I've heard for these cultists - they know a cult when they see one. That would involve overseeing a number of congregations, adding up to thousands. RE: This World: The Mormon Candidate - Willinois - 04-22-2012 11:45 AM Interesting that they brought up support from Marriott. Did anyone notice Romney say in that leaked Fox video that he stayed at a Marriott hotel to save money? Is it so cheap for Romney to stay at Marriott because he's getting those rooms for free or at a discount? Is he reporting that as an in-kind contribution to the FEC? Are they getting around contribution limits that way? Of course you are right but they did a hatchet - OptimistesMaddie - 04-22-2012 12:16 PM (04-21-2012 07:47 PM)Willinois Wrote: I got through the first 20 minutes. As soon as they start going after President Obama and his religion this year....all bets are off and they will get their own treatment. To claim they have such control of church going masses is amusing, but not accurate. It's heavily a ceremonial post, where you have more impact with your letters than your weekly impressions on "the flock". RE: This World: The Mormon Candidate - Treestar - 04-22-2012 01:46 PM I don't care that Mittens is Mormon, but it does tick me off to realize that if the Democrats ran a Mormon, of course the media would make a big issue of it, where they don't for Mittens. Mitt should avoid attacking President Obama the way he does, if he really wants to win. He says lies. Obama is not pessimistic and there is no reason to say such a thing. You can't make things true just by repeating them, Mittens, and you look dumb. Well, I guess he is dumb and it's a good thing that it shows. |
