Crazy Conservative Contradictions - SeattleGirl - 02-19-2012 04:06 AM

There’s a reason liberals look at conservatives like they might be insane. Often, a conservative will say one thing and then, almost immediately, contradict it. Pointing out the contradiction often angers the conservative who then accuses you of either being “stupid” or “twisting their words.” But, because it’s funny to look at crazy people, let’s take a look at conservative contradictions:

1. There is no need to regulate corporations! The free market dictates that all corporations will act in the best interest of the consumer or be put out of business by the “Invisible Hand.”

<snip>

2. Corporations should have all the rights of a person. They should be free to exercise their First Amendment rights and buy influence elections just like any other citizen of the United States.

<snip>

3. You should never try to organize labor. That’s selfish. Unions extort money from corporations, inflate the salaries of workers and give them unearned benefits, like maternity leave and pensions. Union workers are greedy and do not care about the companies they work for. The fact that they are paid so well is a sure sign that they are wrong.

There are NO "small government conservatives" anymore.

In all aspects of governing they want to go big except in taxation of the rich and regulations to keep big corporations from raping the economy and the people. (Forgive the "rape" reference but I find so other suitable term for what they would do to our economy and the people if deregulated.)

They want their religions to dominate society. They want the government in our doctors offices and our bedrooms but not their hospitals or their boardrooms. They want to turn our public wealth over for private gain yet rail against welfare, unemployment and shared sacrifice.

It would be easy to go on but everyone here knows what they are and who they are so I'll just end my rant and go find my BP medicine.

but working class people can't. Typical anti-American right wing thinking

8. Any journalist, politician or private citizen that questions President Bush during a time of war is a traitor.

The Contradiction: During this time of war it is our patriotic duty to question President Obama about every little detail of his agenda.>>

They forgot that one real fast. Damned idiots.

free market, except for labor. There should be no labor unions. Why not? That is consistent with the free market. Freedom of association.

Conservatives don't believe that people should be required to purchase/maintain health insurance BUT they require people seeking abortions to pay for certain medical procedures (i.e. ultrasounds) before they will be allowed to obtain one. They also believe that applicants for public assistance (!) should have to pay for their own drug screens (upfront) before they are allowed to receive public assistance.

If corporations are people and they get government assistance (like oil subsidies) how do you drug test an entire corporation? Do you require all the employees to drug test and then how many positives would it take before the corporation is considered positive? Do CEO's tests count for more than a line worker? Who pays? The corporation or the employees?

Wow, talk about your small government conservative ideas!

I think that there was another conservative contradiction that addressed this subject. Basically, corporations are "people" when it benefits them (i.e. influencing elections) but otherwise immunized against any individual and/or collective blame when what they produce (or how they operate) harms people.
Facepalm

The LLC (Limited Liability Corporation). Created as a way to shield the perps from criminal or civil penalty for their misdeeds done in the name of the corporation. What neat slight of hand.
